On a beach in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, seven Cat machines helped seven sand sculptors to build a rather sophisticated edifice standing 12.69 metres in the air.

It has officially been verified by the people from the Guinness Book of Records as a new world record.

‘Sand Castle’ is the latest in the Built For It series of short Caterpillar films. As you will see below, it shows two Cat hydraulic excavators, a wheel loader, two mini excavators, a vibratory soil compactor and a track-type tractor transform 734 cubic metres of quarry sand and water into the world’s tallest sand castle.

And then destroy it...

 

 

Within five days of being posted on YouTube this film had already got more than half a million hits.
