Our Research & Development team supports the global Laing O'Rourke business by improving delivery, certainty and productivity and advancing our reputation as innovation and engineering excellence leaders.

The R&D Product Design Manager is a senior member of the Design and Technical, and Technology and Innovation functions. The role supports our further development of Platform DfMA or a "Kit of parts" approach to construction. It aims to maximise and realise the potential of design to increase certainty, productivity, and sustainability on our projects.

What are the key responsibilities for this role?

  • Facilitate production of a design brief, with the sponsor and design team that delivers both our clients' needs and company strategies.
  • Maximises the effectiveness of consultant relationships to support design and product development with internal functions.
  • Captures business knowledge and capability enabling continuous improvement and improved capability towards an engineering enterprise
  • Integrates design with manufacturing and construction methodology as well as a procurement strategy.
  • Creating systems, products, and solutions using standardisation to enable offsite manufacturing efficiency and onsite assembly ease.
  • Develops and implements an effective information management strategy and system ranging from use and exploitation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in work winning, to Operations and Maintenance (O&M).

What experience are we looking for?

  • The ideal candidate will have experience in end-to-end design management - from concept to handover.
  • Experience in DfMA, Platform DfMA, MMC and/or product development would be desirable
  • Degree in Architectural or engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, civil, structural)
  • Other appropriate construction-related qualifications plus design-related experience.
