Timber Frame Designer

Job Description

Timber Frame Designer
Herefordshire
Salary to £38,000
Full time permanent

"Timber frame with a twist" | NHBC approved modular housing | Well designed, good quality buildings | Well-funded, good project pipeline

** Timber Frame Designer?
** Are you looking for a new position where you don't have to fight city centre rush hour traffic?
** Does the prospect of working with different building technology (i.e. factory built, modular homes) appeal?

We are working with a manufacturer of factory-built modular buildings and extensions supplying both residential and commercial projects, encompassing single, double and multi-storeys. Working in the Timber Frame side of the business, they now seek a Timber Frame Designer to join their growing company and team in Mid Wales. As a company with excellent financial backing, they are providing an exciting opportunity for a Designer from the housebuilding or Timber Frame industry to join them at just the right point in their growth, where you will play a key role and growing your career at the same time.

As Timber Frame Designer, you will be working from the project brief, and providing technical support during the design and feasibility phases of the projects, using both IT- and paper-based methods to produce your designs and drawings which will then be taken to the factory floor for production. There will be an element of liaison with external consultants during the development of designs for both bespoke and volume house types. Quality is a key essential for this role, and you will need to ensure that you produce designs to comply with BOPAS, NHBC, Premier Guarantee and British Standards. You will be working closely with the Factory Manager and Production Operatives to ensure this quality requirement is reinforced at production stage. You will also be required to attend various meetings, representing the company which may involve travel to locations across the UK where their projects are active, and you will have some input as the projects reach construction phase. As a key member of the team, you will be covering all technical responsibilities in the absence of your Design Manager. Although timber frame design will comprise the majority of your workload, there will be some requirement for you to perform some Draughtsman duties, working on 3D design software, liaising with Structural Engineers, producing manufacturing schedules and drawings supporting site installation as required.

About you:

  • A proven track record within a design office, ideally working on timber frame projects
  • Good working knowledge of design software (eg Wolf, Mitek Woodengine, Consultec, hsbCAD etc) as well as AutoCAD LT and 3D
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills
  • Good mathematical skills
  • Able to organise yourself and meet deadlines
  • Happy to use your initiative, working as part of a team
  • Logical, analytical and creative approach to problem solving
  • Any experience with posi-joists, floor or ceiling cassettes as well as timber frame would be of interest, with particular focus on timber frame.

You will be part of a growing team, working on a good range of designs, and this company has seen a significant increase in demand for these sustainable buildings. This is a great opportunity to join a company as they start some considerable growth. You will be working in modern surroundings, with cutting-edge designs. It's a growing business and they are enjoying considerable funding, so there is a real stability to this opportunity. They have the added bonus of being located in a beautiful part of the country, on the border between Wales and England. This could be a real lifestyle decision for you.
