Assistant Plant Manager

Job Description

A wide-ranging management role with the emphasis on Health & Safety at Aggregate Industries, a leading player in construction solutions.

About the role

As Assistant Asphalt Plant Manager reporting to our Site Manager, you’ll be responsible for helping with the management of a seven-strong team at our London Gateway site and for the safe, efficient, cost-effective production and despatch of quality-assured asphalt within agreed financial targets.  Helping to drive a Zero Harm culture, you’ll also ensure that all aspects of the plant operation are carried out in accordance with the requirements of all statutory legislation and our own Health and Safety, Environmental & Quality policies.  In addition to implementing and reviewing operational procedures, risk assessments and procedures when necessary, you’ll also: 

• ensure that all plant and equipment is subject to planned maintenance 

• motivate, lead, and train all personnel as required whilst encouraging continuous improvement 

• review and monitor staff progress against agreed targets by formal appraisals 

• maintain the daily readiness of the depot. 

What will you bring?

Formally qualified in Health, Safety & Environmental Management, Manual Handling, and with a Diploma in Asphalt Technology or similar, you should also have a qualification in managing people.

Your comprehensive track record in, and knowledge of, asphalt plant is underpinned by detailed working knowledge of the plant, machinery and tools used on-site and of local and corporate procedures and policies.  With skills certification to operate mobile plan and a current Slinging & Lifting certificate, you’re also trained in working in confined spaces and at heights.  In addition to your ability to operate both fixed and mobile plant, you can also offer: 

• the ability to write, train and appraise risk assessments and operational procedures 

• strong planning and organising skills in an ever-changing environment 

• excellent all-round communication skills.

Training can be provided to achieve this role.
