Quantity Surveyor

Job Description

Position: Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor (Permanent) - Social Housing
Location: Bristol
Package: £45,000 - £55,000 Basic + Car/Travel Allowance


Reporting to: Commercial Manager

Purpose
The day to day administration of contracts as assigned to include full invoicing, cost reconciliation and reporting responsibility.
To ensure prompt conversion of works from WIP to invoice and cash in order to reduce risk, building relationships with Clients in order to assist.
Offer support to other departments with regards to commercial/contractual issues, working closely with other Quantity Surveyors, the Commercial Manager and Operations Manager.

Responsibilities
Carry out measurement, application, agree/resolve disputes, invoice and resolve invoice queries to convert from WIP through to cash.
Ensure that all jobs costs are charged correctly including timesheets, purchase invoices and subcontractor costs.
Ensure that the administration of Sub-contracts is at all times optimised.
Offer guidance and manage the above process for other contracts within the team in order to ensure internal targets are met.
Build relationships and rapports internally across departments and externally with clients to assist the above processes.
On a contract by contract basis, ensure we have the controls to manage the following, in accordance with internal targets;
Our WIP effectively
Our debt effectively
Our profitability
Be involved in producing a local budget, using past performance to help with forecasting, sense checking that it is both realistic and challenging.
Produce monthly cash flow forecasts per contract where required
Ensure that our commercial and financial processes & systems are maintained and adhered to locally.
As and when required, participate in the commercial element of local bid process or contract review.
To assist as required and where necessary with any commercially related functions
Any other Quantity Surveyor duties

Experience/knowledge required
Proven main contractor experience working as a Quantity Surveyor/ Senior Quantity Surveyor in a commercial role on refurb, response & planned maintenance contracts within the social housing sector.
Knowledge and understanding of measurement and valuation including use of Schedule of Rates.
Commercial skills to maximise value recovery and control cost
Good communication and time management skills
Knowledge and understanding of contractual obligations under various forms of contract
Excellent IT skills including the use of internal cost systems and particularly advanced in Excel.
