There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. Our Eastern Counties division located in Huntingdon is looking to recruit the Head of Technical to head up the management of the divisions Technical function. The Role Principal accountabilities of the Head of Technical role include: Manage the department to ensure that it provides a high quality and timely service on all Technical matters. Work with the team to resolve day to day issues within the Technical team as and when they arise. Work closely with various divisional teams at various stages of the construction process. Prepare and provide the Commercial Director with management information and reports as and when required within agreed timescales. Formally appoint external consultants via competitive tendering and negotiation of their fees and ensure their compliance with formal appointment. Ensure and monitor that external consultants are briefed and managed on the preparation and issue of production information in accordance with their appointment and to an agreed programme as required to meet the needs of the Division. Monitor and manage the professional fee budget on a monthly basis. Manage the discharge of the planning conditions and consent to the build programme. Ensure that all queries are dealt with promptly and in a professional manner by relevant Technical personnel. Establish trust and maintain a professional approach dealing with the design teams, construction staff and statutory authorities. Liaise on a regular basis with the Commercial teams (Buying and Surveying) to ensure that all activities are delivered to the agreed time/cost/service specification. Review the identification of cost reduction and margin improvement opportunities and ensure their integration into future activities. Review and check technical strategies and/or designs for land acquisitions prior to submission to Land team. Monitor and check that accurate consultant fees are prepared for land acquisition purposes. Attend management meetings and development meetings plus other meetings when required. Monitor and check that any matter relating to delays, disruptions and variations that may result in additional costs on any development are promptly dealt with and notified to the Commercial Director where appropriate. Uphold a ‘best practice’ and ‘continuous improvement’ approach to all Technical processes and procedures. Ensure the Division is compliant with internal and external Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. Manage the team to ensure that Customer Care targets are achieved. To have read, understood and comply with Company Policy and Procedures at all times. Always represent Bellway Homes Ltd professionally in both personal appearance and conduct. Carry out any other reasonable tasks in accordance with operational needs as requested by your Manager and other Company Directors. Experience, Qualifications and Skills Experience: 5-10 years’ experience working at a senior level within the housebuilding industry as either a Head of Technical / Senior Technical Manager or equivalent running numerous projects simultaneously. A good level of knowledge and understanding of CDM Regulations, LABC/NHBC requirements, Building Regulations, Planning System, Codes of Practice, Party Wall Awards and other associated legislation connected with both house and flat construction. A track record for effectively managing a high performing team. Qualifications and Training: Qualified as a Civil / Building Engineer, Architecture or Construction related degree level or HNC/HND in a built environment subject with relevant experience. CSCS card or equivalent Current Full Driving Licence Skills and Aptitude: Strong communication, listening and presentation skills Excellent attention to detail Methodical, conscientious, organised and works to deliver high standards. The ability to recognise problems and deal with them in a speedy and effective manner Ability to manage and motivate a team Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment Demonstrates the ability to problem solve and delegate effectively IT literate and the ability to adapt to new systems within the technical environment.
