A £150m mixed-use development at Radclyffe Park in Salford has been given planning permission by the local authority.

Salford City Council approved the Ordsall scheme, which will see the construction of a 156-bed Travelodge hotel, a 50,000 sq ft Morrisons store, 11 retail units, and 114 new homes.

In addition, a new primary school, new healthcare and community facilities, and improvements to open spaces will be built.

Construction of the new Morrisons is due to start next month, followed by the Travelodge in January 2011.

LPC Living is the developer behind the project, which is expected to create up to 500 construction jobs.

Director Simon Ashdown said: "With the BBC moving to their new base in 2011, Salford Quays is rapidly gaining national significance.

"However, it is vital that the outlying areas to MediaCity benefit directly from the investment that is being brought into the area."
