£70m Redrow housing scheme in Plymouth restarts

8 Jul 10 Construction work has restarted on a £70m housing scheme in Plymouth after developer Redrow Homes received a £3m Government grant.

Construction work has restarted on a £70m housing scheme in Plymouth after developer Redrow Homes received a £3m Government grant.

Work on the 460-home South Yard development had stalled during the recession, with only 100 units complete.

But Redrow has said work on the remainder of the project will now proceed after receiving £3m from the Homes and Community Agency's Kickstart fund.

This cash will be used to start the 88-home affordable housing element of the scheme, on Chapel Street, which is scheduled for completion by 2012.

The other 272 homes in the South Yard development will be constructed over the next five years.

The scheme is part of a wider regeneration of the Devonport dockyard area called Redrow Vision.
