A £75m mixed-use development in the centre of Birmingham has been given the green light by city planners.

The 25-storey Queensgate project includes a 259-bedroom hotel and 144-bedroom 'apart-hotel'. Irish firm Manor Park Developments is behind the scheme.

Queensgate will be next to two other flagship projects, the Mailbox, and the recently-completed Cube.

The developer already has a long-term lease signed with serviced-apartment operator, StayCity, and said it would announce an operator for the hotel soon.

New Manor Developments expects construction to begin in March 2011 with completion estimated in early 2013.
