Amey has won a contract from Network Rail to extend platforms at nine stations in the South East of England to accommodate new 12-car passenger trains.

The contractor will also carry out supporting works on the existing track, overhead line and signalling equipment and upgrade lighting, public address and CCTV security systems.

Amey will use a mini-piling system to support the new platform structures, which can installed without using a rail-mounted piling rig, enabling lines to stay open for business throughout the project.

In a traditional piling operation, specialist rigs are positioned on the tracks and work is carried out during rail possessions, at evenings or weekends.

Survey and design work starts in July and all stations are due to be completed by November 2011.
