Balfour Beatty wins £230m Oldham BSF

21 Jun 10 Balfour Beatty has been selected by Oldham Council as preferred bidder for its Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

Balfour Beatty has been selected by Oldham Council as preferred bidder for its Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

The construction giant saw off competition from Equity Solutions, which had Galliford Try on board as contractor, to clinch the £230m deal.

However, there is a question over whether the scheme will proceed.

Councillor Jack Hulme, Oldham cabinet member for children and families, said: “The BSF programme is currently under review as the new Government examines its spending priorities. Pending any decision on that we are simply continuing to proceed responsibly as a local authority with our plans to ensure that our BSF programme is in an advanced position to potentially secure funding.”

Informal stakeholder and public consultations will now take place in relation to Balfour Beatty’s proposed designs for the Borough’s new Roman Catholic school and the refurbished North Chadderton school.

It is anticipated that planning applications will be submitted in July.

Balfour Beatty is expected to start construction work on the two sites in January 2011.
