Bam wins £600m Somerset BSF

23 Feb 10 Bam PPP UK has been named preferred bidder for the £600m Somerset Building Schools for the Future contract.

Bam PPP UK has been named preferred bidder for the £600m Somerset Building Schools for the Future contract.

The consortium - which includes Bam Construction and Bam Facilities Management - will be Somerset County Council’s partner for the transformation of secondary schools across the county.

It pipped Aura, a consortium led by Sir Robert McAlpine, to win the contract.

The first phase of the job involves the £100m rebuilding of Bridgwater’s four secondary and two special schools. Construction work is expected to begin after financial close this summer.

The announcement comes after fears the contract award would be delayed by a Treasury intervention over flooding concerns.

HM Treasury asked the council in January to respond to a number of queries it had about Somerset’s flood risk before it would approve the funding for the project. This has apparently now been resolved.
