Crossrail advertises marine transportation contract

19 Jul 10 Crossrail has advertised a contract to manage the marine transportation of material excavated during the construction programme, including associated works on Thames side wharves and at Wallasea Island, where most of the material will be deposited.

Crossrail has advertised a contract to manage the marine transportation of material excavated during the construction programme, including associated works on Thames side wharves and at Wallasea Island, where most of the material will be deposited.

The deal includes provision of sea-going vessels to transport the excavated earthworks materials, management of the shipping movements, plus the unloading, sorting and placement of the material to pre-designed profiles at Wallasea Island and other designated sites.

Construction work includes modification of tidal structures at Wallasea Island, and upgrade of ship loading facilities.
