The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is to appeal a High Court decision to allow student accommodation to be built near a gas installation, reports Estates Gazette.

The £40m Wolverhampton development comprises four tower blocks, three of which have already been built.

The last tower, which would add 750 rooms to the student village, is being built within metres of a gas cylinder.

Developer is student accommodation specialist Victoria Hall & Fleming , which wants to build the scheme in Wolverhampton’s Canalside Quarter.
In a judgment in November 2009, the local council was criticised for failing to alert the HSE before granting planning consent, but refused to quash the decision.
