House builder fury at Gordon Brown attack on industry

The House Builders Association (HBA) – a division of the National Federation of Builders – has expressed its outrage over claims made by Gordon Brown in last night’s Leaders Debate that house building firms have not ‘served the UK well’.

Roger Humber, strategic policy advisor to the House Builders Association (HBA), said: “It is outrageous for Gordon Brown to attack the industry that was hit first and worst by a recession caused by his economic mismanagement.

“To top it all off, the sector’s recovery is now being damaged by state owned banks that are refusing to lend to house builders or house purchasers.

“His misleading claims are completely at odds with his Chancellor’s recognition, in the recent Budget Statement, that the excessive burden of industry regulation, imposed by this Government, has been both a cause of its problem and an obstacle to its recovery”.
