Network Rail has announced the extension of its track renewal contracts with AmeyColas, Babcock Rail and Balfour Beatty.
However, its fourth track renewal contactor, Jarvis, has been dropped, after the firm was placed in administration last week.
The other three contractors will carve up the Jarvis share between them.
Network Rail expects to invest approximately £3.5bn on track renewals during the regulatory period which runs from 1 April 2009 to 31 March 2014.
