Laing O'Rourke has been confirmed as main contractor for Land Securities' £300m Trinity Leeds scheme.

The developer said that work will start on site this week on the 1,000,000 sq ft city centre project. It said the value of the construction contract is “£100m plus”.

Land Securities had announced last month plans to revive the scheme, mothballed since the recession.

The development is scheduled for completion in spring 2013, and at its peak, up to 1,000 construction workers will be on site.

Laing O'Rourke has already been involved with the project during the demolitonphase.

Dan Doherty, regional director for the contractor, said: “It is a privilege to work on a scheme of this magnitude and to have been appointed to deliver the only major retail development in the UK at this time. Our project team is eager to recommence work on site to begin delivering this exciting shopping destination.”
