New Gatwick Airport owners unveil £1bn modernisation plan

Gatwick Airport's new owners Global Infrastructure Partners has unveiled a £1bn modernisation plan.

The improvements will focus on the South Terminal departure lounge, entrance forecourts, immigration hall, baggage systems and the North Terminal Interchange.

Global Infrastructure Partners bought Gatwick for £1.5bn from BAA last October.

Stewart Wingate, CEO of Gatwick Airport, said: "Gatwick has long been recognised as London's favourite airport, a more friendly and enjoyable place to travel. It's by building on these qualities and investing in new facilities that Gatwick will go from strength to strength."

Last week, the Government announced the establishment of a South East Airports Taskforce to tackle congestion at airports around London.
