Office workers claim seasickness due to nearby Costain construction site

7 Sep 10 Office workers in Newbury claim that construction work on a nearby development is making them feel seasick.

Office workers in Newbury claim that construction work on a nearby development is making them feel seasick.

Costain is main contractor on the £80m Parkway housing and retail scheme in the Berkshire town for Standard Life Investments.

But staff at St James's Place Wealth Management on London Road say their office has been shaking while construction work progresses, reports Newbury Today.

“We have contacted Costain about the seasickness issue and the noise, but we don’t want to blame them for the problems,” said Yasmin Litchfield, facilities manager for St James's Place Wealth Management.

“We have had render fall off the top of the building, and have a large structural crack in our basement which I am now in the process of having repaired.”

She said several other nearby businesses had complained of similar issues.

A spokeswoman for Standard Life Investments said: "We are not aware of any correspondence with St James Place, nor are we aware of any issues relating to seasickness due to a shaking building."

A spokesman for Costain said it had no further comment to make.
