SGB Industrial Services have supplied a uniquely comprehensive portfolio of access equipment to contractors installing external cladding to a new £400 million combined-cycle power plant near Plymouth.

The 847MW Langage Energy Centre is the first gas fired power station to be constructed in the South East of England for several years. The facility is being built by main contractor Alstom Power on behalf of Centrica Energy.

SGB Industrial Services won the contract to supply access equipment to specialist contractor Prater via a competitive tender process. In total, SGB have provided 200 tonnes of their CUPLOK® system scaffold, two Mastclimbers™ as well as two 27m high mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).

The equipment was used to provide access to the main Turbine Hall and Heat Recovery Steam Generator Building, plus ancillary buildings.

SGB Industrial Services has a reputation for flexible tendering and working closely with its clients, often establishing dedicated site teams to work alongside the client’s workforce to achieve a cost-effective and safe access solution to meet programme deadlines.

Construction work on the project began in late 2006 and will be completed in 2009. It is expected that the plant will become operational during the Summer 2009.
