The crisis-hit Edinburgh tram construction project is set to borrow a further £55m to help it through funding problems.
BBC Scotland said the city council has drawn up contingency plans to borrow extra cash to fund a cost over-run.
The £545m scheme is already behind schedule and over-budget.
Meanwhile, there are question marks over contractor Bilfinger Berger's involvement in the Edinburgh tram scheme.
Two weeks ago, the firm was given a deadline of three weeks to resolve problems on the project.
