Two shortlisted for final stage of £180m Stockton BSF

5 Jul 10 Two construction companies have made it through to the final stage of the Stockton BSF schools programme.

Two construction companies have made it through to the final stage of the Stockton BSF schools programme.

BAM Education will battle it out with Shepherd Construction for the £180m contract.

Interserve, which had made it through to the previous round of bidding, is the unlucky firm to miss out.

The scheme will see two new build academies constructed and the remodelling and refurbishment of seven mainstream secondary schools, two special schools and a pupil referral unit.

BAM and Shepherd will now work with client Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and representatives from the borough’s schools to further develop their ideas before submitting their final bids in the autumn.

The local authority will announce their preferred bidder towards the end of this year and work is expected to start on the first two schools, Bishopsgarth School and Ian Ramsey Church of England School, in spring 2011.
