Wates and Sir Robert McAlpine have been shortlisted for a £10.5m contract to design and rebuild a Doncaster school, which suffered significant fire damage in December 2009.

The Department for Education announced last month that the rebuilding of Campsmount Technology College would be a pilot scheme for the ongoing Independent Schools Capital Review.

Under the plans, the new school could be built ahead of the original schedule and with significant cost savings.

The two bidders which will now proceed to the next stage of procurement through the Partnerships for Schools Contractors' Framework.

Doncaster Council is due to be announce a winner before the end of the year, with construction expected to commence in March 2011.

Wates and Sir Robert McAlpine are competing to design and build a replacement school for Campsmount Technology College, which was almost destroyed by a fire in last December. The school is currently housed in temporary accommodation.
