Affordable housing scheme in Fife moves forward

17 May 16 Construction can now get under way of a £6.5m scheme that will provide 49 new homes for affordable rent.

Kingdom Housing Association has finalised the land purchase for its site at Pitscottie Road, Cupar, and has also secured full planning approval.

The development will include 16 one- and two-bedroom homes, half of which have been designed to to meet the needs of older people or applicants with particular needs. The development includes one two-bed and one four-bed home designed to full wheelchair standard; 10 two-bed general needs homes; 20 three-bedroom family homes and a four-bed family home.

Bill Banks, chief executive at Kingdom said: “We are delighted the project is progressing, particularly given the high needs for affordability housing in Fife. There are currently over 9,000 active applicants on the Fife housing waiting list and almost 350 of the applicants are on the list for a home in Cupar. This project will help meet the housing need in the area for many years to come.”

He added: “The project will provide over £6.5m investment in social housing and help contribute to economic development in the local area. As part of the project it is proposed to deliver a range of community benefits, including schools initiatives, employment opportunities, apprenticeships and training placements.”

The project has been designed by local architect Montgomery Forgan and will be developed for Kingdom by Fife-based contractor Campion Homes.

The specification for the new homes includes enhanced thermal insulation standards; energy monitoring meters; water efficiency measure and photovoltaic panels.
