Arup picked for Malaysian light rail tunnel

22 Jun 15 Arup has been appointed as a design consultant for the second line of the Klang Valley mass rapid transport (MRT) project in Kuala Lumpur.

The contract for Mass Rapid Transit Corporation involves the reference design for the 13.5 underground section. The second line, also known as the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line (SSP Line) will run from Sungai Buloh to Serdang and Putrajaya, covering a distance of 52.2km. It will consist of 39 stations, 10 of which will be underground. The elevated section of the SSP Line is estimated to be 38.7km in length.

Arup will be doing the reference design for the 10 underground stations and the fitting up of the Tun Razak Exchange Station – an interchange that will connect the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line and the SSP Line.

It will be producing reference design for all other operational buildings and structures and will also be assisting MRT Corp with the tender process for the underground construction package. The latter includes drawing up tender documents, evaluating technical submissions from tenderers and carrying out design and technical reviews.
