Australian win for Balfour Beatty

16 May 13 Balfour Beatty has won a £76.5m road and rail contract in Melbourne, Australia.

The work for Victoria’s Road Authority, VicRoads, will be carried out by the NetworX Alliance team, which includes both Balfour Beatty’s rail division and its consultancy, Parsons Brinckerhoff.

Australia country manager Guy Templeton said: “This is the first Australian contract secured under the new country model structure and highlights the effective combination of the design skills of Parsons Brinckerhoff working together with project delivery expertise of our global rail business. We look forward to developing this strategy further within the Australian and New Zealand markets.”

The project to remove the level crossing at Springvale will involve lowering the existing rail line beneath the road, which will reduce congestion, improve safety and cut journey times. A new station with transport interchange and associated precinct areas will also be constructed as part of the project.

NetworX is an alliance consisting of Balfour Beatty Rail, Parsons Brinckerhoff, McConnell Dowell and Beca. The team will work alongside VicRoads, Public Transport Victoria (PTV) and Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) to design and build the project.

Work is due to start in this month and will be completed by the end of 2014.
