Balfour Beatty lands Chilean metro contract

28 Jun 11 Balfour Beatty Rail has been awarded a three-year infrastructure maintenance contract for the Metro de Santiago in Chile.

The comprehensive preventative and corrective maintenance package comes with an option to renew for an additional two years by mutual consent.

The contract covers five lines (1,2,4,4A and 5) with more than 104km of track and 109 stations. Balfour Beatty Rail will provide 24-hour, seven days a week cover for the duration of the contract.

Balfour Beatty Rail built Lines 4 and 4A on the Santiago Metro in 2004. This was followed in 2008 by the award of the construction contract for a 4km extension to Line 1 together with the construction of the track on a 14.2km extension of Line 5.
