Balfour Beatty signs agreement for Virginia health centre

13 Aug 14 Balfour Beatty Construction has been awarded a preconstruction agreement by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) for work on a US$41m (£24.4m) treatment centre.

Under the agreement, Balfour Beatty will preconstruction services for the new Virginia Treatment Center for Children project in Richmond under VCU’s construction management-at-risk procurement system.

The 10,870m2, 32-bed facility will serve as a replacement in-patient behavioural health centre for children and will be part of the existing Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, Brook Road campus. The facility will accommodate clinical, education, research, and community needs for VCU.

It marks Balfour Beatty’s first project for VCU.  “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be a relentless ally for such a respected institute as Virginia Commonwealth University and the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System,” said David Laib, senior vice president of Balfour Beatty’s Washington, DC division. “We hope that this is the beginning of a long relationship, and look forward to providing them a world class behavioural health facility.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in September with completion slated for the end of 2015.
