The three-storey complex at St Helen and St Katharine School in Abingdon will have 12 laboratories, four each for biology, chemistry and physics, three subject-specific prep rooms and three staff offices. The new science centre will be linked to the old school building by a three-storey glass atrium providing 200m2 of activity space.

The building is designed to meet the BREEAM ‘Very Good’ standard.  The original design is by rh partnership, but Beard has appointed architects Mitchell Taylor Workshop to work with them on a design and build basis to project completion.

Technical infrastructure includes full wireless connectivity, multi-function device printing on each floor and visualisers in each laboratory for projection of experiments and demonstrations onto large screens.

The project is due for completion in September 2014.
