Mark Smith, aged 47, joins from William Hare where he was London operations director. At Billington he also gets a seat on the main board.
Before that he worked for DA Green Steel & Cladding for 26 years, latterly as commercial director. DA Green was placed into administration in October 2010, four months after he had resigned.
Billington chairman Peter Hems said: "Mark has worked in the structural steel industry for a considerable number of years and comes with a wide range of experience. His membership of the Billington Group board will further strengthen our senior management team."
