Blythewood had already agreed to take the machine on trial when its Peterborough depot took an order from a customer when all its other double drum rollers were already out on hire.  The decision to purchase was made swiftly, without the planed evaluation process.

“We had just taken the DD24 on evaluation trials to see how it stacked up against our existing brand choice when this particular hire came up from our Peterborough depot, so with this, coupled to our long standing experience operating Volvo mini excavators, we decided to take their DD24 double drum roller on spec,” explained operations director Dave Hazell.

“Certainly the attention to detail in the design and the overall build quality of the DD24 look impressive and providing it proves itself over the coming months it will certainly be a model we will be adding more of to our fleet moving forward,” he continued.

The Volvo DD24 double drum compactor weighs 2.6t and has a drum width of 1.2m. The drums feature dual frequencies operating at either 55Hz or 67 Hz for optimal impact and delivering nominal amplitude of .53 cm. A 260 litre pressurized water feed system is directed via four nozzles per drum working in conjunction with spring loaded, self-adjusting urethane wipers.
