Boot boss takes NFB chair

19 Jun 15 Henry Boot Construction managing director Simon Carr will be sworn in as the national chair of the National Federation of Builders next week.

Current National Federation of Builders (NFB) chair John Maddock will hand over the chains of office to Simon Carr at the NFB annual general meeting, taking place in Sheffield on Tuesday 23rd June 2015.

Mr Carr said a key theme for his year in office would be the much-publicised skill shortages facing the construction industry. He is also expected to build upon NFB’s efforts to improve procurement and payment processes for members.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be able to lead the NFB over the next 12 months,” Mr Carr said. “I shall be focusing on both the challenges and barriers to growth that face our industry, building on the good work of my predecessors and the NFB executive team.  This includes access to finance, pipeline of opportunities, open and smart procurement, poor payment practices, greater engagement with schools and the curriculum, reducing bureaucracy and last but not least the training and the skills needed to deliver the infrastructure to support a modern economy.”

Simon Carr was previously chair of NFB’s northeast region. He has worked in the construction industry for more than 35 years, most of them with Henry Boot Construction, which he joined in 1988.
