Bridge lift on A11 upgrade (video)

2 Oct 13 Balfour Beatty has reached a key milestone on its A11 Fiveways to Thetford improvement project for the Highways Agency.

Last weekend it lifted into place a new steel bridge at the B1106 junction.

The lift was subcontracted to Ainscough Crane Hire.

The bridge is constructed from two braced pairs of steel beams, each weighing 77 tonnes with a span of 37.5m. The concrete deck will be installed shortly.

The bridge forms part of the construction of the new grade-separated junction that will carry the local road (B1106) over the new Elveden Bypass and is one of six news structures to be constructed on this £105m contract, which sees the A11 upgraded to dual carriageway between the Fiveways roundabout at Barton Mills and Thetford in Norfolk.
