Brighton Pavilion estate works out to tender

8 Jun 16 Brighton & Hove City Council is advertising for a contractor to undertake the first phase of refurbishment of the Royal Pavilion Estate.

The Royal Pavilion Estate comprises of the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, Pavilion Garden, Brighton Dome Concert Hall, Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre.

The £14m contract for Phase 1 includes the improvement of the Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre.

The main construction proposals include: improvements to the Studio Theatre including a ground floor bar and café; creation of a new Corn Exchange viewing gallery and audience circulation space; transformation of the Corn Exchange with new seating and more efficient infrastructure; and provision for additional offices and storage.

Arts Council England has awarded £5.8m to the project and the Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded £5m.

Five contractors will be invited to submit full bids in September, based on requests to participate received by 22nd July.

The aim is to start work in January 2017, completing in August 2018.

Phase two includes internal refurbishment of the Royal Pavilion, refurbishment of the Royal Pavilion Garden and the creation of a new visitor centre.
