B&V picked for Brazilian power station

15 Nov 16 Black & Veatch is to serve as owner’s engineer for a power project for Centrais Elétricas de Sergipe (Celse) in Brazil.

The 1,516MW combined cycle Porto de Sergipe power station will meet growing electricity demand and supplement hydropower supplies during dry weather seasons. It will be the largest natural gas power station in South America.

As owner’s engineer, Black & Veatch’s services include monitoring the cost and schedule performance of the engineering, procurement and construction contractor, as well as technical reviews of the design and equipment.

The plant’s turbines will use liquefied natural gas (LNG) that will be delivered through a new floating natural gas storage and regasification facility being constructed as part of the project. The Celse consortium formed by eBRASIL and Golar Power is responsible for development of the Porto de Sergipe plant.

Construction begins this month and the plant is scheduled to be commissioned in late 2019.
