Calatrava faces court hearing over Spanish convention centre

8 Aug 14 Architect Santiago Calatrava is due to appear in court in Spain next month in connection with his work on a convention centre.

A statement from the Valencian high court, the Tribunal Superior de Justicia de la Comunidad Valenciana, said that he had been charged in the investigation into the Centro de Convenciones. He will appear in Castellon court on 2 September.

Calatrava had been appointed by the local government to design the building in 2008 but the recession meant that the project was never built. Local press reports say that he was paid €2.7m (£2.1m) for his work and that the authorities have been asked to provide information about how he came to be hired without a public tender process.
