The £5.5m subcontract is the first step in a £170m upgrade of United Utilities’ Davyhulme treatment works in Manchester.

The overall works package includes 430,000 tonnes of earthworks, 100,000 tonnes of soil treatment and placement of 65,000m2 of piling mats. Work will be undertaken throughout mid and late 2015.

As previously reported, the upgrade involves significant remediation of previously abandoned land, followed by construction of six circular primary settlement tanks (PST) and a large activated sludge plant (ASP) with 10 circular final settlement tanks (FST).

Celtic said that its selection for the job reflected the company’s “ability to deliver integrated earthworks, innovative site remediation and off-site STF solutions, to manage client’s development risks”.
