Centre stage for ISG Jackson on £7.9m school theatre

27 Jun 11 ISG Jackson has won a £7.9m project to build a multi-purpose auditorium at Saffron Walden County High School in Essex.

The project is scheduled to begin in July, with completion set for spring 2013.

Occupying the site of an existing school hall building, which will be demolished as part of the development, the high specification auditorium, designed by The Tooley & Foster Partnership, will be used for plays, concerts and events by both the school and the local community. The auditorium has been designed to be flexible, with a large retractable seating area and a sunken orchestra pit that can be covered over to increase floor space.

ISG Jackson will also extend the existing sixth form accommodation and facilities at the school. The main entrance to the school will also be remodelled to improve accessibility and provide an entrance to the auditorium outside of school hours.
