CH2M Hill chosen for Melbourne Airport runway expansion

7 Aug 14 CH2M Hill is to provide project management services for first phase of the runway development programme at Melbourne Airport in Australia.

The programme involves development of a third runway and is one of several projects that Melbourne Airport’s management firm, Australia Pacific Airports Melbourne, is commissioning to enhance capacity. The airport's forecasted capacity demand for 2033 is 64 million passengers a year.

The scope of work includes a new 3,000m runway capable of supporting the Airbus 380 and other next-generation aircraft. The runway will be built parallel to an existing east-west runway, which will be lengthened and widened to facilitate simultaneous operations on the airfield.
