CH2M Hill wins Qatar road safety contract

28 Aug 14 CH2M Hill has won a consultancy contract on a QAR600m (£99m) project to improve the safety of Qatar’s roads.

The new commission for Qatar’s public works authority, Ashghal, will see CH2M Hill working on a programme of initiatives outlined in the national road safety action plan. CH2M Hill will provide technical resources and locate a number of transport specialists at Ashghal’s offices to help implement a series of road safety improvement programmes, including those affecting pedestrians, schools, rural roads and intersections.

The safety improvement projects will vary in scope and complexity ranging from better signage to large scale upgrades like new pedestrian overbridges or construction of additional lanes.

Steve Kinghorn, CH2M Hill’s project coordinator and transportation leader in Qatar, said that the pioneering road safety improvement programme has a budget of QAR600m over the next five years. “We are determined to help deliver on this by bringing together our best specialists and practices from across the world,” he added.
