Congleton community centre gets fresh look thanks to Seddon apprentices

12 Jan 12 Apprentices from painting and maintenance specialist Seddon Property Services have given a bright new look to a previously under-threat Cheshire community centre.

The Seddon team spent three days redecorating the main hall of Fellowship House, Congleton, for young people’s charity Visyon which now operates the centre. Visyon – which promotes the mental health and emotional wellbeing of children and young people – moved into the Park Road building last August and is developing and improving the facility for use by local people.

“The centre is already used by a number of community groups, including a lunch club for older people, a dance club and a group of parents with children with disabilities,” says Visyon operations manager Tim Dibble. “One of our main aims is to bring more young people into the centre and the work by the Seddon apprentices will really help with that. The main hall hadn’t been painted for some time and was looking tired – now it looks so much fresher and brighter. It was great that the young trainees were involved in doing the work.”

A group of five Seddon apprentices took on the redecoration of the hall free of charge as a community project with paint donated by Crown Paints. “One of Visyon’s patrons, Dawn Gibbins MBE, spoke at a recent conference for Seddon and we wanted to do something to say thank-you and return the favour,” says Seddon Property Services corporate social responsibility manager Kevin Rhone. “The redevelopment of Fellowship House is a hugely worthwhile project and our apprentices were pleased to be able to help out with the redecorating work. Getting involved in and supporting community initiatives is very important to us, especially as we are an organisation that does a lot of work locally.”

Seddon Property Services regularly carries out projects in the Congleton area for Plus Dane Housing and has its national headquarters in nearby Stoke-on-Trent. Other recent local schemes which Seddon has worked on include the refurbishment of Lambs House, Congleton. Seddon Property Services is part of Seddon Group, a family-owned company specialising in construction, painting and maintenance and housebuilding.
