Construction worker invents gadget for charging mobiles on sites

29 Oct 15 A West Country construction worker and his father have launched a patented system for charging mobile phones and tablets on construction sites.

In the UK, construction workers’ power tools run on 110v supply and trades and mobile phone chargers do not fit the sockets. Although battery banks are widely available, they are very bulky to carry around on site all day and also need charging up when they power down.

Aaron Philpott from Weston super Mare, Somerset, found this extremely frustrating and set about devising a solution to the problem with his father John, who has worked in product development for 20 years.

The pair designed and patented 110v Extension Leads and 110v Junction Boxes with built in USB ports for charging phones, tablets and other rechargeable devices. Other 110v products with built in USB ports are also in development.

The products are being sold under the brand name JUST110 which is a trading name of Boss Power and Light, based in Weston-super-Mare. They are available on the company’s website and through electrical and tool wholesalers including nearly 400 branches of City Electrical Factors.
