Contest opens for Camden's £30m Tybalds Estate regeneration

19 May 14 Camden Council is hoping to start construction work next year on a £30m regeneration of the Tybalds Estate in Holborn.

The council has called for contractors interested in the design and build job to lodge their interest by the middle of next month. Invitations to tender will then go out a week later.

The Tybalds Estate is in Holborn, London WC1 on the edge of the Bloomsbury Conservation area. It comprises of a mix of nine post-war blocks, between five and 14 storeys high, housing 390 flats in all. These have already been refurbished and will stay.

The aim of the Tybalds Estate regeneration project is to provide 93 new homes within a mixture of new build blocks, additions, extensions and conversions of existing buildings. The scheme will also provide a new energy plant and heating replacement for 162 existing homes along with external repairs to the existing blocks. The works will also include full landscape and environmental works.

The Tybalds planning application was approved by Camden’s planning committee in June 2013.
