Contract awarded for Dubai boardwalk

30 Sep 14 Developer Nakheel has awarded Overseas AST a contract for a AED150m (£25m) boardwalk being built at Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah resort.

The Boardwalk is designed to transform Palm Jumeirah’s 11km protective crescent into a destination for walking, shopping and dining. It includes an east and west piers, each stretching 100m out to sea and featuring glass-encased cafes and restaurants with views of the Arabian Gulf, Palm Jumeirah and the Dubai skyline.  The piers, to be constructed at either end of the crescent, will each have 1,000m2 of decking.

The Boardwalk will be created by building over the rocks of the Palm’s breakwater. It will be 6m wide – more than double the width of the existing path – with 30 kiosks.  Construction is due to start before the end of 2014, with anticipated completion in mid-2016.
