Crane operators balloted on new offer

12 Nov 14 Tower crane operators at HTC Plant have called off their planned strike action this week after management improved its pay offer to the workforce.

The 24-hour strike planned for this Friday 14th November has been called off pending a ballot of employees on the improved pay offer by their trade union, Ucatt.

The industrial action for 21st November is still scheduled at this stage.

HTC employs more than 180 tower crane operators and they voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action last month. On a turnout of more than 80%, 94% supported industrial action.

They decided to strike on three successive Fridays – the 7th, 14th and 21st November.

A Ucatt insider said: “A new and improved offer has been made. As a result we are calling off the strike planned for November 14 while we ballot our members.”
