He takes over from Bob Holt, who had combined the roles of CEO and executive chairman but now becomes simply chairman of the board.
Miles, aged 44, joined Mears in 1996 when the company had just five branches. He was appointed to the board as COO in January 2007. Today Mears has 180 branches.
Holt has led the business since flotation in 1996. During this time Mears has grown from revenues of £12m to £470m and has expanded into new areas such as domiciliary care.
