The 52-tonne machine is the largest excavator that David Smith Contractors has ever bought. It is also the company’s first Doosan.

It has been put to work in the company’s new quarry near Inverurie. David Smith Contractors acquired the Smiddyburn Quarry five months ago and the DX530LC-3 excavator is used to extract rock from the face and load it into crushing and screening equipment.

As standard, reinforcing plates have been added on the boom end in the DX530LC-3 excavator. The shape of the boom end has also been modified and the material for the boom main boss has been changed to cast steel to improve durability. Reinforcement plates on the inner boom and arm have been repositioned to improve structural strength.

David Smith, managing director of David Smith Contractors, said: “With its wide undercarriage, the DX530LC-3 model produces exceptional stability and unmatched lifting capabilities. This is a mass excavation machine fitted with an extra heavy counterweight and a short front end to deliver more breakout force and tackle every tough digging job, so it will also be a very powerful tool for use on our own civils projects.”

The machine was supplied by local Doosan dealer Balgownie.
