Heads to roll at Laing O’Rourke

25 Feb 16 Laing O’Rourke is looking to shed 200 employees in a cull of support functions and regional offices.

News of the UK downsizing comes just a month after Laing O’Rourke announced that it had put its Australia business up for sale.

The company said that both moves are all part of a strategy to focus on engineering and manufacturing (as in offsite construction).

In a statement, Laing O’Rourke said that it was “consulting with UK-based employees on a proposal to establish a more competitive business structure across its UK operation, ensuring its project delivery teams are supported by a leaner and more operationally-focused functional overhead”.

It added: “It is likely that the proposals will result in a reduction in the number of employee roles in support functions and a streamlining of regional office networks. The company may therefore have to make circa 200 redundancies.”
