Highways England goes out to tender on East Midlands design services

7 Oct 15 Highways England has now published a tender for a design services contract in the East Midlands, running for five years and with an expected value of £25m.

This is the third invitation to tender to be published under the new set of arrangements in the East Midlands (Area 7), which sees Highways England making a change from its previous way of working, bringing key functions in-house to take direct control of its road network.

For design services, a single supplier will be appointed. The contract will be in place from 1st April 2016, with design services starting on 1st July. Duties include preparing technical designs and undertaking supporting work for capital projects from an initial scheme feasibility phase through to the end of construction phase.

The contract requires areas of expertise including, but not limited to, structures, pavements, drainage, vehicle restraint systems, technology, environment, geotechnics, lighting and landscaping.

David Poole, director for commercial and procurement for Highways England, said: “The changes we are making in Area 7 really demonstrate Highways England’s commitment to delivering a different approach to maintenance and investment delivery over the next five years.

“The design services tender is the third to be released under these new arrangements, and we are delighted to be making real progress towards our new way of working.”

The tender can be found online at http://ted.europa.eu/udl?uri=TED:NOTICE:352155-2015:TEXT:EN:HTML.
