Hochtief’s US arm wins $180m convention centre scheme

22 May 14 Hochtief’s Turner Construction Company is to manage a US$180m (£107m) expansion project at the largest convention center on the west coast of the USA.

Turner will work in a design-build partnership with Populous Architects on the expansion of Anaheim Convention Center, which hosted 238 trade shows, conventions, meetings and consumer events in 2013.

“Turner’s Southern California office calls Anaheim home, and we are pleased to be working on such a great project in our own backyard,” said Kevin Dow, vice president and general manager of Turner’s Southern California office. "This addition to the world-class convention centre will continue to ensure that Anaheim’s hospitality industry has all the tools necessary to thrive into the future.”

The 1.6 million-square-foot convention centre has undergone a number of transformations since it was built in 1967. Upon completion of this expansion, there will be an additional 200,000 square feet of flexible, multi-use space at the north end and a climate-controlled pedestrian bridge that connects the expansion to the original facility, as well as replacement of parking areas, loading docks and a vehicular entrance to the campus.
